Unemployment and Poverty in Interwar Britain Essay Example for Free

Unemployment and Poverty in Interwar Britain Essay To interpret the interwar years of the British took a lot of different views according to the statuesque of one person in the comparison. It is precisely depending on topics, to some extent of interest. Perhaps in focus of economic depression of the interwar brought the period of worst turning point in Welsh history, at which it is the region of Britain that experience the height levels of levels of unemployment and greatest degree of poverty.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The wars brought a great impact to the nation status like economic and political condition. During war time people suffers a lot of agony. Many people like for example, the Liverpool dockworker, writers, political activist like George Garret and George Orwell, the historians shared opinions of the existing war of British, â€Å"Orwell vision is symbolic of traditional view of British society between the wars† (Orwell, George, Boston, 2000.1). With these Orwell’s vision, many argued and did not agree. This is the reason why must Historians never content with traditional views.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Historians interpretation of interwar Britain have not, therefore, completely changed views of   this period but it gave them a more complex and realistic understanding through. That is why; historian sees that Orwell is only one sided and did not tell the whole truth. Historians tried to see the contradiction of the age – â€Å"with poverty and affluence, underemployment but also new expanding industries† (www.groupstudystop.co.uk).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I think the reason why Liverpool dockworker, writer, and political activist did not like George Orwell’s book since it is biased. He does not reveal the true scenery of what was the true picture of the conditions during those interwar days.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Noting in the past of the dockworker who suffered from â€Å"under schooled, under housed, under paid, under cared for an almost respects and with no reasonable hope of betterment, from an Old Etopian† (www.Historystripstop.co.uk), the most rich and powerful at that time. On the part of writer they do analyze and make assumptions that there is no doubt why poverty still exists at that time. These were the pessimistic accounts among literally men social investigator somewhat like a political activist like George Garret and John Lehman.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Looking back history, during the time at which at first glance look at England those days where peace still exist, it is unusual of foreign people to see English people in existence to the country. It is also said that the accent referred by Americans as â€Å"the English Accent†, is not common to almost all people at that time. Even movies and other advertisement dealt with hostile or friendly, nearly all generalizations made about England during that based on the property owning class. It was most overpowered by people who have had a great and big investment. The truth is that people was ruin by other people who just came bringing wealth just to ruin the country. In fact, the book wrote by George Orwell doesn’t reveal the fact about England those days. Actually the book titled: The Road of Wigan Pier does not reveal much about the actual situation of the society those days. Its is said that â€Å" It is worth trying for a moment to put oneself in the position of foreign observer, new England , but unprejudiced, and able because of his work, to keep in touch with ordinary people , useful unspectacular people†( Orwell, George. 2000. Pp. 1.)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Garret mean to what he says, â€Å"That it( The Road of Wigan Pier)†appears to be left book since it is just nothing to revealed the fact of what is really happening. It does not give factual information but just hide the things going wrong on the matter. Garret judge the book as junk one. References: Orwell, George. Understanding Teens Who Self Injure Essay -- Psychology Depression You

Understanding Teens Who Self Injure   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Imagine being sixteen years old and taking a razor to your arm because you feel so much pain inside that cutting is the only way to escape it. For a lot of people this idea seems strange and incomprehensible, but for many teenagers this is their reality. In a society with so much abuse, neglect and crime children are facing things that they never had to face in the past. Adolescents who are lacking more positive coping skills are turning to self-injurious behaviors to ease their pain and frustration.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In recent years the issue of self-injurious behaviors or SIB (White Kress, 2003) has increased in popularity. The general public is starting to take a special interest in the issue as more and more people are doing it. The issue of self-mutilation can be found in movies, television and popular literature today. With increasing media attention people want to understand what these behaviors include, who does it and why. Although researchers agree that more research is needed on the topic, much is already known about these behaviors. About 1% of the general population and 4% of the mental health population suffer from a form of SIB (Shoemaker, 2004). Often times people who suffer from SIB have preexisting mental health disorders such as major depression, Dysthymia, dissociate identity disorder, OCD, substance abuse disorders, adjustment disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and eating disorders (Brittlebank et al. as quoted in White Kress, 2003).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Although there is many different definitions of what SIB is, most researchers would agree that ?SIB is defined as a volitional act to harm one?s body without any intention to die as a result of the behavior? (White Kress, 2003). There are also a lot of different terms out there for these behaviors, they include self-inflicted violence, self-injury, self-harm, parasuicide, cutting, self-abuse, and self-mutilation (Martinson, 2001). Without any intention to die as a result is a very important piece of information when understanding SIB. While many people who self injure do have suicidal ideation, most are not in fact suicidal. ?Menninger described self-mutilation as the focusing of suicidal impulse on part of the body instead of the whole body to avoid actual suicide? (Zila & Kiselica, 2001). Someone who is suicidal wants to end his or her life, howev... ...er from SIB could have suicidal ideation, which at times Lisa does, but I would not consider her suicidal.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Overall, my information was very informative and well written. It gave me a clearer look into the world of SIB and a better understanding of Lisa and what she is dealing with. I definitely think more research needs to be done in the field. I would like to find more information on boys with SIB because that seems to be becoming more frequent and also more treatment suggestions. Works Cited Martinson, Deb. (2001). Self Injury. Organizational Process Recommendation Paper

RUNNING HEADING: Organizational Process Recommendation Organizational Process Recommendation Paper University of Phoenix MGT 449 Mrs. Rebecca McHatton December 7, 2009 Quality International Textile Group is a diverse, innovative provider of global textile solutions and distinguished fabric brands to automotive, apparel, interior furnishing and industrial markets worldwide. While excellence is the common thread that weaves throughout Quality International Textile, it is the uniquely combined threads of a global manufacturing platform, innovative products, state-of-the-art systems, and a dynamic team of forward-thinking professionals that create unparalleled opportunities and competitive advantages for our customer partners. Quality improvement involves identifying discrepancies within organizational processes that may not run as effectively as possible. Many organizations find that a process is adequate for a time, but could function more effectively with some tweaking. An organization that strives for quality helps create an atmosphere based on teamwork and ensures that the entire organization will contribute to meeting the company’s ultimate goals. An effective evaluation process helps manage employees, offer suggestions, and a chance to set their career goals. The evaluation of an employee should have a positive influence on each individual employee regardless of the outcome. A major determinant of service quality centers on the people providing the service. Employee selection, training, motivation, supervision, and reward-all process relating to employees have a significant impact on quality. Burrill, 1999) Currently, there is no particular standardization for the process. Each manager evaluation process differs from another. Below is a â€Å"as is† flow chart of the current evaluation process that need to be analyzed. The description of the process is extremely limited because currently there is no strategic plan in place within t he entire process. Form the period that the self- evaluation is initiated until the time the management evaluates the employee can range any where from 1 month until one year. There is also no set timeframe when management discuses the employee evaluation until the time a pay increase is initiated. All raised vary from one manager to another, and there is no particular percentage set for pay increases regardless of the evaluation outcome. Therefore, there is no relation of the process to the organization’s strategic plan. This process of improvement would benefit the employee; it would also benefit customers, and the company as a whole. Effective quality management for an evaluation process would lead to higher productivity because employees would know and understand that their yearly salary increase would depend on their performance therefore, timely and systematic resolution of evaluations/ appraisals is important. An effective performance appraisal process would help the quality culture within the organization because employees would feel that their performance is significant to the company and its goals. Customers within the organization that are affected are office and field employees, suppliers, and customer. Initially a customer does not know if the service provided is good or bad, but an inefficient process for serving the customer can create a dad impression. The Fabric industry experiences the same business malfunctions as other companies. Therefore, the fabric industry should adapt the methods and ideas as other companies but many still have not adopted the Total Quality Management process. Those are the companies that will most likely experience increasing competition, rising legal cost related to cost overruns and schedule delays, and decreasing profit margins. (Cotinas, 1999). Several steps can be taken to ensure that metrics motivate process behaviors that increase customer value. The first is to identify and prioritize the customers served by the process. (Burrill, 1999). Although the process of employee evaluations does not directly involve customer service, it does have an effect on customers receiving services from the company’s employees. To hire an HR manager to perform create and perform appraisals to better adhere to each employees qualifications would be a great way to implement a change. The cause-and-effect diagram is a method for analyzing a process. The diagram’s purpose is to relate causes and effects. The cause and effect diagram can become complex and make it difficult to identify the problem, but it would be well worth it. If other all employees are allowed to help identify problems relating to the situation and provide a chronological view, that would be just what the company needed for restructuring of the company’s quality culture. Improvement process can vary and there are many tools to help organizations implement change. Seeking ideas and opinions from employees is one of the best techniques to identify whether or not any changes are necessary. References Achieving Quality through continual improvement . How to Say “Some” in Italian

How do you express a quantity that’s uncertain or approximate?  If you need to buy SOME  pane  and a BIT of  vino, here you will find an easy explanation on how to appropriately use larticolo partitivo in Italian.   The partitive article appears before singular nouns like  del miele, del caffà ¨, del burro (some honey, some coffee, some butter)  as well as before plural nouns of an unspecified amount  dei libri, delle ragazze, degli studenti (some books, some girls, some students).   In the simplest terms, it can be defined as meaning some, but you may also use it to mean any or even a few when it is meant to be a rough estimate. The partitive is expressed by the Italian preposition di,  which typically means of or from, combined with the definite article, like il or le. For example: Lo ho delle cravatte blu.  Ã¢â‚¬â€œÃ‚  I have a few blue ties.Lei beve del caffà ¨. –  She is drinking some coffee.Lo esco con dei compagni. –  I go out with some friends.Lui vuole del burro. –  He would like some butter.Noi abbiamo soltanto della zuppa e un paio di cornetti. –  We only have some soup and a couple of croissants. Italian Partitive Articles   Singulare Plurale Femminile della delle Femminile (before a vowel) dell delle Maschile del dei Maschile (before a vowel) dell degli Maschile (before the letters z, x +consonant, and gn) dello degli A Little Bit Of: Un po’ Di However, using a form of the preposition di as the partitive article isn’t the only way to express an imprecise amount. You can also use the expression un po’ di, which translates to a bit of, a little bit of. For example: Vuoi un po’ di zucchero? –  Do you want a bit of sugar?Vorrei un po’ di vino rosso. –  I would like a little  bit of red wine.Aggiungi un po’ di sale e di pepe! –  Add a little bit of salt and pepper!Me ne sono andato perchà © volevo un po’ di pace. –  I left because I wanted a bit of peace.Avete dei cibi senza glutine? –  Do you have food without gluten?Mi serve un po’ d’acqua per favore? –  Could I have  a bit of water please? When to Use the Partitive Article Di vs. Un Po’ Di   Imagine this scenario. You walk into a panificio  because you need  del pane (some bread) and you tell the fornaio: Vorrei un po’ di pane toscano. –  I would like a bit of Tuscan bread. Do you see the difference there? Del pane is a more general way to say what you want, and you use un po di’ when you want to be more specific. Heres another example, lets think you are going to buy del basilico (some basil): Voglio comprare un po di basilico  Ã¢â‚¬â€œ I want to buy a bit of basil. For a richer, more organic use of the language, you could, instead of using a partitive article or the phrase un po’ di,  use an indefinite pronoun, and practice making sentences with alcuni (some), as in alcuni ragazzi  (some boys, a few boys) or qualche, as in qualche piatto (some dish).
